Lunchtime Play Reading with Dr. Marcia Ferguson

Friday, March 19, 2021

Looking for a chance to explore some short plays outside of the classroom? Dr. Marcia Ferguson invites you to participate in a reading of short plays by 19th century Irish playwright Lady Augusta Gregory, co-founder of the legendary Abbey Theatre. Since these are short plays, we'll have time to share our thoughts about them.

In this informal Zoom reading, we are not performing for an audience but rather exploring the script in an active and collaborative way. Everyone who attends will have the opportunity to participate in the reading. All theatre lovers are welcome! No advance preparation needed!

RSVP here to let us know you can make it and receive the Zoom link.

About the Plays

Lady Gregory’s plays have been unfairly overlooked, largely eclipsed by the male playwrights (Synge, O’Connor, Yeats) who she helped produce when she co-founded the Abbey Theatre with W.B. Yeats in 1904. Her short one-acts are a fun and easy read: political, folkloric, and nationalistic.
