Requirements for a Theatre Arts Minor

The Theatre Arts Minor

The basic requirement for the Theatre Arts minor is six courses units:

  • Three academic (drawn from theatrical literature, theory, or history)
  • Three practice-based (such as acting -- including in a theatre arts production, directing, or design)

Students wishing to declare a minor in Theatre Arts should complete the following steps to indicate interest and set up a meeting with the Program Director. Please note that submitting the Study Request Form is not enough to declare your minor. You must also complete the other steps below before your minor request can be made official.

1. Fill out the “Declare/Update Field of Study Request Form” found on the Registrar’s website.

2. Contact the director of the Theatre Arts Program, Dr. Rosemary Malague (rmalague@sas.upenn.edu) to schedule an appointment.

In addition to becoming officially “declared,” the Program Director helps students plan their course of study, providing information about when courses are offered and in what sequence they should be taken to best fulfill the minor requirements.

Choosing Courses for Your Minor

Students can search for practical and academic courses towards the minor requirements in Path @ Penn in the Course Attribute Advanced Search drop-down menu. "THAR Minor Academic Course (ATNA)" will find courses that count towards the academic course requirement. "THAR Minor Practical Course (ATNP)" will find courses that count towards the practical course requirement.
