Event
Looking for a chance to explore a new play outside of the classroom? Theatre Technical and Production Coordinator, Cat Johnson join us as we read Apologies to Lorraine Hansberry (You Too August Wilson) by Rachel Lynett.
What to expect:
Feel free to bring your lunch with you to this informal Zoom play reading, where we will read and discuss a contemporary play together. We are not performing for an audience but rather exploring the script in an active and collaborative way. Everyone who attends will have the opportunity to participate in the reading. All theatre lovers are welcome! No advance preparation needed!
RSVP here to let us know you can make it and receive the Zoom link.
About the play:
Set in the fictional world of a post-Second Civil War, Bronx Bay, an all-black state (and neighborhood) is established in order to protect "blackness." It's a utopia but enforcing utopia proves to be tricky when it comes to defining who is Black and who isn't.
About the playwright:
Rachel Lynett is a queer Afro-Latinx playwright who writes dark comedies about complex, complicated women of color. Her recent playwriting credits include commissions with Barrington Stage Theatre Company (HOLY GROUND), Florida Studio Theatre (CARRY ME and AS YOU ARE), and Theatre Lab (LAST NIGHT).
