Join us for a performance of Samuel Beckett’s rarely seen short plays, including a screening of his one and only film (entitled Film), starring Buster Keaton. These extraordinary, tragicomic short plays – Footfalls, Rough for Theatre I, Come and Go, Catastrophe, and his film Film – are full of humor, darkness, and humanity reduced to its essence. Join the Theatre Arts and the Cinema and Media Studies Programs for an unprecedented collaboration, as we engage Beckett’s legacy in two dimensions, live and onscreen. Opening night will be followed by a reception and post-show discussion/Q&A, with Timothy Corrigan from Penn’s Cinema and Media Studies Program, and Tina Brock, Artistic Director of the Idiopathic Ridiculopathy Consortium, a long-standing and heralded Philadelphia theatre company dedicated to Absurdism.
