Auditions: Fall Beckett Production

Sunday, April 22, 2018

Announcing auditions for Theatre Arts’ mainstage production for Fall 2018, a selection of Samuel Beckett’s late, great short plays, which will also include a screening of his film, Film. Auditions will be held in room 511 in the Annenberg Center for Performing Arts on Friday, April 20, from 5-7:30, and on Sunday, April 22 from 4-7, also in room 511. Auditions are open to all in the Penn community, no experience necessary. Materials for audition provided, no monologue required. Playwright Edward Albee famously called these plays “…an experience unequaled anywhere in the universe of words,” preferring them even to Beckett’s more famous long-form plays, Endgame and Waiting for Godot. The extraordinary short plays are full of humor, darkness, and humanity reduced to its essence. Join the Theatre Arts and the Cinema and Media Studies Programs for an unprecedented collaboration, as we engage Beckett’s legacy in two dimensions. Directed by Marcia Ferguson, this production will be the credit-bearing course Theatre Arts 350 for all participants who fulfill a major role within the production, whether onstage or backstage.
