Production for Performance

THAR 3501.301

instructor(s):
Tuesday & Thursday 3:30pm - 5:00pm*

Theatre Production for Performance provides students with deep intellectual, artistic and technical immersion in the theatrical process through intensive research, project management, tangible creation, and synchronized application of a full-length stage production. Each semester, the play will be featured in the Theatre Arts Program production season, and performed by the students inĀ THAR 3500Rehearsal and Performance. Before the end of Course Selection Period students enrolled in 3501 will choose a focus area: props, scenery, lighting, costumes, or sound. Some semesters will provide an opportunity for a focus in projections. Students will learn from design professionals working on the production in tandem with the course instructor. This course does not follow a typical meeting pattern.

The play for THAR 3501 Production for Performance in Spring 2024 will be announced by October 18th, 2023. During the beginning of the semester all enrolled students will meet during the typical meeting days and times: Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. As students delve into their area of focus their required meeting times will change; some may consolidate their class time into tech rehearsals and performances in April, others may maintain a weekly class schedule with a gap during tech and performance weeks. Students must commit to their assigned schedule by the end of Course Selection Period, January 31st 2024. Students with a strong preference for a specific area of focus are encouraged to contact the instructor, Cat Johnson, catj@sas.upenn.edu, prior to registering.
