ADVANCED PLAYWRITING

THAR 214.401

instructor(s):
Mon., 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm

This course is designed for students to have the opportunity to write and workshop their own full-length plays. It involves reading brand new plays (defined as plays that have world premiered within the last 5 years) and writing and revising at least 40 pages of your own full-length play. You will leave the class with either a new play or most of a new play and an outline to complete it. Since a great deal of this work takes place in-class, weekly attendance and active participation is crucial. At the end of the semester, excerpts of students' plays are read in a staged reading environment by professional actors. You will also be required to see three plays outside of class on your own time. Students who enroll should already have completed the Playwriting Workshop class or contact the instructor for permission.
