About Theatre Arts 350

Theatre Rehearsal and Performance provides students with deep intellectual and artistic immersion in the theatrical process through intensive research, rehearsal, and performance of a full-length stage piece. Students may enroll in this course as actors (by audition only) or as assistant directors, stage managers, dramaturgs, or designers (by permission of the instructor). Each semester, the play will be featured in the Theatre Arts Program production season; the class meeting times will vary, but will typically consist of 16-20 hours per week in the evening hours.

Join us for THAR 350 for Spring 2021

This spring, the full semester course THAR350 Rehearsal & Performance departs from the acknowledgement that we cannot reproduce the theatre we knew but must forge the theatre anew. To that end, we’ll be developing a new virtual piece devised by the company. We’ll take some inspiration from the revolutionary theatre practices and utopic imaginings of those who came before to create a piece that is driven by the ensemble in both content and form. (Plus, we’ll have some special guest artists to help us along our way). You’ll be asked to bring your full artistic self to the table—your actor self, your writer self, your director self, your designer self, your producer self, your thinker self, your human self.

Rehearsals will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00, plus additional evening times (10-15 hours) scheduled based on the ensemble’s availability. Performances will stream at the end of April.

Interested students should sign up for a meeting/audition. Please bring and be prepared to read a short text that is currently moving you or inspiring you. It can be a monologue, a poem, a song, a recipe, anything.
