THIS COURSE HAS BEEN CANCELLED FOR THE SPRING 2017 SEMESTER.
In this course, students and instructor will, together, undertake a thorough exploration of Kafka’s literary works, including novels, short stories, letters, and essays and the personal, intellectual, and political issues and ideas that permeate those works. Drawing on that exploration, the class will create an original performance piece that will travel to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in late August. The piece will also be the initial production of the Theatre Arts Program’s 2016-2017 season. A small group of students—Theatre Arts majors and minors--will be selected to make up the Kafka performance group. But any students with a keen interest in the writing of Franz Kafka or in creating original performance work are encouraged to enroll in the course. No theatre experience required. Contact the instructor, Dr. James F. Schlatter, with any questions.
